Maartje Overhaus, MSc.
Maartje Overhaus is a PhD candidate in social cognitive neuroscience within the SocialSelves Lab and GUTS consortium at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. During her bachelor’s and research master’s in Psychology, she specialized in Brain & Cognition and Clinical Psychology, which fuelled her interest in exploring the neural underpinnings of behavior, particularly through functional MRI studies. In her PhD research, she investigates how social and individual factors shape the development of self-regulation in adolescents. To study this, she uses a social delay discounting task combined with fMRI to analyze both behavioral and neural patterns. Through her research, she aims to deepen our understanding of how self-regulatory skills develop and how they both influence and are influenced by young people's social experiences.
